About Savoy
Savoy is one of Fayetteville’s standard west-side loops and a popular choice for a mellow ride with modest climbing.
The core route gains about 1,100 feet, making it one of the area’s flatter local standards.
Starting near the western edge of town, it descends into the community of Wheeler, winds through Steele and drops into the scenic Illinois River valley near Savoy. After tracing the eastern edge of Lake Wedington Recreation Area along a brief half-mile stretch of the Highway 16 shoulder, Viney Grove and Goose Creek roads lead back toward town for a finish on Rupple Road. The terrain is rolling, with quiet roads, farms and small unincorporated communities.
Notes
- Refueling: With no stops for water or supplies, plan to bring a bottle and a snack.
- White Bull: Locals sometimes refer to the intersection of Barrington and Arbor Acres in Tontitown as “White Bull,” named quite literally for the large white bull beside the road.
- Brief Hwy 16 section: After descending into Savoy, the route uses about a half mile of the Hwy 16 shoulder, so use caution through there.
