If you’re looking for a big day, this is it.
The route includes the full Historic Highway 71 corridor south, including the Mount Gaylor pass before turning back near Rudy and Cedarville. From there, it heads north through winding, forested mountain roads toward Devil’s Den State Park, then continues through Strickler and Hogeye on the way back to Fayetteville.
It's a ride with more than 6,000 feet of climbing, and is hands down one of the biggest and best road rides out of Fayetteville. It combines several of the southern network’s most memorable roads into a century that feels every bit as iconic as the map suggests.
Notes
- Refueling: There's a gas station and a store in Rudy. The Hogeye Mall store was also recently reopened in Hogeye.
- Water: There are water stops at the Brentwood rest area on Highway 71 and at the Devil's Den State Park Visitor's Center (slight detour).
- Highway traffic: Use caution on the highway stretches and keep an eye out for traffic.
