About Crawl Hill
Crawl Hill is reserved for days when the goal is simple: suffer on purpose.
The climb sits deep in the southern network, reached only after riding roughly 20 miles from Fayetteville and topping the Whitehouse Road climb. From there, CR 108 pitches sharply upward through the woods, with ramps above 21% and little chance to settle into a rhythm.
Conquering it has long been a local rite of passage, sometimes rewarded on fondo rides with a custom top cap. After the summit, the route rolls across the ridge before dropping to Winslow on Sunset Road. Pair it with Black Oak and make a day of it.
Notes
- Refueling: There is a gas station on Hwy 71 near the Sunset Road intersection.
- Iconic climb: This is one of the steepest climbs in the local network, with sustained pitches and sections above 21%. Bring very low gearing and expect a serious effort.
- Dangerous descent: Use extreme caution in the opposite direction. The steepest section leads directly into an early sharp curve with virtually no margin for error. Control your speed well before the turn.
