The quintessential Fayetteville road loop, featuring two tough climbs, big views, and a return to town on Scenic Highway 71.
About Black Oak
Black Oak is the most-known local route, and is an excellent ride in either direction.
The route explores the transition between the Springfield Plateau and the Boston Mountains.
Leaving Fayetteville on Black Oak Road, riders tackle an immediate, punchy climb over Robinson Mountain before descending into the Middle Fork of the White River valley.
After passing Sulphur City, the route turns onto Whitehouse Road, ascends a slow-burning ridgeline climb, and then drops down the western flanks of the highlands into the West Fork valley before returning on Arkansas Scenic Highway 71.
It is the quintessential Fayetteville road loop.
Notes
- Refueling : The Brentwood Park rest area offers a water fountain, covered shelter and restrooms.
- Highway 71: With 55 mph vehicle speeds, use caution on highway sections, especially the stretches without a wide shoulder.
- Bridges: Use caution on the bridges with metal grates, as the gaps between the concrete and metal are wide enough in some places to swallow a tire.
